Embedded Video Network Management Solutions
Video Network is an exploding trend still emerging specially in the video security domain; any commercial center uses several cameras. Managing those farms of cameras or of street screens become a challenge; It doesn't make any sense to send a technician to check each camera when simple control and configuration can be performed from a remote location; then technicians would attend physical location only in case of crucial problem.
In order to understand what "management" is all about, one can be inspired by the world of telecom with its FCAPS terminology:
- Fault: alert and record problems
- Configuration: configure the devices: for example, move the camera
- Accounting: this concept is specific to telecom industry since it relates to the ability to keep track of the usage of the network in order to bill a customer. For the video security network I would replace accounting by Analytics.
- Performance: accumulate information on the way the cameras are functioning
- Security: protect the cameras network from intruder
There are actually two de-facto standards for the remote management of video devices as cameras or screens:
We are actually providing an ONVIF stack for the TI Video evaluation board. A PSIA stack is under development.
